Hiddenite
Hiddenite is the green variety of spodumene. Kunzite is the pink version of hiddenite. Like kunzite, hiddenite gemstone is a relatively new stone in the market, despite poor quality of spodumene has been around for a long time. Hiddenite is quite rare and displays a nice light green color that can be a nice alternative to emerald, thus called “Lithia emerald”.
Discovered in North Carolina, in 1879, by William Earl Hidden, hiddenite displays a strong pelochroism when viewed from different angles. For this reason, experienced cutters will cut hiddenite so that the strongest colors are shown when viewed from the top. Hiddenite’s color can range from yellow to bluish green, with the deeper green being more valuable hiddenite as it resembles emerald.
Because hiddenite is such a rare gem to find, as it only mined in a few areas, hiddenite is often known only among mineral collectors.
